About the role

Do you see yourself as a future finance leader? Are you looking for a first-class, fully funded graduate opportunity to train as a chartered accountant? Are you passionate about improving public services?

Then our Graduate Trainee programme might be what you’re looking for!

As a trainee at Audit Wales, you’ll be studying for your accountancy qualification whilst investigating how the public’s money is being spent, and whether it is being spent well.

You’ll play a part in the audit of over 800 public bodies across Wales, ensuring the work you do makes a real difference to the citizens of Wales. Our clients include Welsh Government, NHS Wales, local government and many more!

Applications are open to graduates from all disciplines, with positions available throughout Wales. With offices in Llandudno Junction and Cardiff, wherever you’re based, there could be a role for you in Audit Wales.

Who are Audit Wales

We’re the independent public sector audit body within Wales; our unique role is to assure the people of Wales that public money is being well spent and to inspire the public sector to improve. Our work is having real impact on local communities; some of our recent national work has looked at affordable housing, digital inclusion, active travel, homelessness and climate change.

Why Audit Wales?

We care about the learning and development of our trainees, and you’ll be fully supported whilst you balance your studying with your hands on role as a trainee.

We’ve also got an impressive list of benefits:

  • 33 days annual leave per annum (exclusive of public bank holidays)
  • Generous salary package, starting at £30,617
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Shopping discounts
  • Professional subscriptions

We are also proud to be accredited with Working Families and the Living Wage Foundation and are continuing to grow a diverse workforce that is representative of the communities we work in and the skills, experiences, and perspectives they offer and welcome and encourage applications from people from all backgrounds.  We are also a member of the Disability Confident Scheme and guarantee progression through to the first stage selection process for all disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria for the role.

Applications close on 18th January 2026.  Successful candidates will start in July 2026.

The use of AI in the application process is accepted but relying solely on AI to write your application or supporting statement is not advocated by Audit Wales and could negatively impact your chances of success in the application process.
