  • The demand for temporary accommodation has increased almost five-fold in the last decade. This demand, plus financial challenges, means councils are operating in ‘firefighting’ mode and are focussing on managing demand.

Our report found that councils have made limited progress in improving the prevention of homelessness and reducing the demand for temporary accommodation. Councils are also not assessing the value for money of their current temporary accommodation provision.

You can also find our recommendations to councils, which are focussed on improving both the prevention of, and the value for money, of temporary accommodation in our report.
